The gorgeous new window, depicting St. Peter reaching out to Christ as he sinks beneath the waves, so kindly donated to the parish by the Worshipful Company of Glaziers, has now been fully restored, cleaned and expertly framed and delivered safely into our hands as of yesterday afternoon. The photographs do not do it justice and when illuminated it is absolutely beautiful. I am as excited as a small child on Christmas morning!!
At the end of February our favoured builders, S Smith and Son of Tonbridge, will be installing the window into the sanctuary wall. The plan is to place it in front of the current central window pane before covering the side panels. We will then plaster around the new frame to leave only the new window visible. How it will enrich our church and beautify the sanctuary to the glory of God.
The final piece of the jigsaw will see an overhaul of the very tired lighting in church. We have secured a competitive quote for the work and now need to push on with the very last bit of fund-raising before we can commission the work to begin.
On July 1st we plan to hold a special Choral Evensong- in thanksgiving for the beautification project- and will be inviting those who have helped to transform our church to attend. For we are most grateful to donors, fundraisers, well-wishers and all who helped make the transformation possible. Almost everything has been salvaged and was unwanted and disused- so it is also a great work of recycling!
