A new School year and a new role as I begin life this evening as a governor of our local Catholic Primary School, Saint Augustines. I am delighted to be able to join the governing body and will do all that I can to support the staff and help raise the standards for the benefit of the children. I care about this school passionately as both a priest and parent.
As part of my duties I have been asked to take on three roles. Firstly to be the governor with oversight for the teaching of RE. Secondly to sit on a special committee to ensure the latest OFSTED targets are driven through to move us from Satisfactory status to Good or better. And finally to forge a close link with one of the classrooms. So there is plenty for me to get stuck into and I am very much looking forward to it.
Fortunately my background as a Primary School teacher and, more recently, as Chair of Governors for Saint Barnabas School in Tunbridge Wells, equip me for the task well (I hope!) Do please pray for all Catholic schools today. May they enable all children to flourish spiritually, emotionally and educationally.
